Bansuri Blog

About my blog:
This is a blog on how to learn to play the Bansuri. The bansuri is a bamboo flute from India. I am currently learning to play from Carlos Guerra, who is an international bansuri recording artist with over 30 years of experience. This blog is intended to serve as a resource for other students of bansuri. Carlos has kindly agreed to me publishing notes and recordings from our lessons, in the hope that it will assist in the continuation of this wonderful instrument. Please feel free to post helpful information or to comment on this resource. As this is my personal blog, please do not hold Carlos responsible for any mistakes that I might have made! I will try to keep the blog up to date and accurate, but I am only human and mistakes will occur!

To navigate through the blog, please use the tabs at the top of the page. I will be updating as often as time permits, so please check back some time!

Bansuri:
The different lengths produce different tones. The shorter the length, the higher the pitch. Shorter flutes are generally easier to play for beginners as they require less finger flexibility. A child of around 7 years is capable of learning on a C bansuri, which is around 45 cm long. Most concerts are played on low E flutes, which are a little over 75 cm long. An adult can usually begin with a G, which is around 64 cm.

Carlos Guerra:
Carlos teaches, performs and records the bansuri internationally. He has 3 CD available, which are suitable for massage, yoga, relaxation and meditation. If you are interested in CD sales, please contact me at rob.mcguinness@gmail.com or, if you can read Spanish, you can also check his site http://carlosbansuri.com/

  1. Music always stands for the broader outrage of life in the society. You can definitely relate all of your emotions with the help of music. Happiness, agony, pain, disgust, anger, sorrow- everything can be related through the different kinds of music. When it comes to talk about music, you cannot deny the importance of musical instruments which are used along with music. There are lots of instruments used in various types of musical genres. Among all the instruments, flute is considered to be one of the modest and sober instruments used in music. Basically this typical instrument is seen to be used in the traditional country music or folk music. This is really great post to give basic idea for beginners about flute.
